Quinta do Porto Nogueira’s origins go back to the first half of the XVIII century. For centuries, Quinta do Porto Nogueira's main crop has been the vineyard, more recently replenished and planted in its original terroirs, around the houses and both the old and new wineries.

The Vineyards
The soil where our vineyards produce are clay, bearers of a natural freshness, without watering, being kind of unique and marked by both the influence of a natural microclimate of the foothills of Serra de Todo-o-Mundo (“All-the-World Mountain”) and the proximity to the Atlantic Sea, which is 20 km away. Each portion of the 17 hectares vineyards in Quinta do Porto Nogueira – which are DOC Óbidos classified - is treated and valued as unique and different, proving our wines are produced for the pleasure and well-being of those who enjoy them.
This natural freshness and salinity are excellent for the production of white grapes Arinto, Alvarinho, Encruzado, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay and very conducive to the production of red grapes, such as the Pinot Noir and Touriga Nacional.

Choosing Every Grape
When harvesting and afterwards in the cellar, we adopted a rigorous Grape Selection Process that we use to produce all of our wines. It is an organized process of successive sorting that assures us the selection of the best grapes: pre-harvested grapes, bunches selection while harvesting and in the cellar, and final selection of berries on the table. In the fruit we use there are no greens, rotten, insects nor rubbish.
Only the best selected fruit is used in our wine making process.

The Cellar
We always use grapes grown in our vineyards when producing our wines. The white grapes, when pressed, ferment in small vats. Both our Mono-varietal and Reserva blends white wines are aged in French or American oak barrels under fine lees, with batonnage.
On the other hand, the red ones are gently trampled and macerated in mills, following the fermentation in small vats. Part of our Harvest red wines, and both our Mono-varietal and Reserva blends are aged in French or American oak barrels from the well-known cooperages french tonneleire Séguin Moreau and portuguese tonnelerie JM Gonçalves.
